What Is a PVC Pipe?

A Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe is a versatile plastic tube widely used for drainage, water supply and irrigation. It is known for its functional properties like high durability, flexibility, ductility, malleability and ability to withstand harsh weather conditions which makes it an ideal component for use in a range of industries and applications. Fusible PVC pipes are assembled using a thermal butt fusion process that involves a combination of heat and pressure to result in leak-free, fully restrained PVC pipes.

Fusible PVC pipes offer superior stiffness and durability compared to other plastic piping and eliminate the need for transition fittings. On top of that, they are resistant to corrosion and limit long-term deformation under soil load. How Does Fusible PVC Installation Work?

PVC fusion work is done on-site by our technicians who use high-quality and industry-standard fusion equipment. We have the equipment to work on several different diameters of piping, and each fusion joint takes approximately 1.5 to 2 minutes per diameter inch to be completed. By fusing PVC directly together, it can be used in both pressure and non-pressure situations in various industries that work with water, sewer, electrical, agriculture and telecommunications.

Fusible PVC in Kamloops, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, and surrounding areas across BC is a cost-saving trenchless method that has a variety of applications and functions. It eliminates virtually all gasket joints and provides for a larger flow area. By using our directional drilling methods, we also do not have to use traditional trench methods for installation. This limits the amount of disruption on-site during installation.

Fusible PVC also comes in various sizes, from 3 inches to 36 inches, with the following features:

  • Gasket-free joints and a fully restrained piping system that is bendable

  • Connects easily to standard waterworks fittings

  • Lasts a lifetime

  • Lower installation costs

  • Resistant to oxidation, scratches and abrasions

How Long Do PVC Pipes Last?

If installed properly, most PVC pipes can last up from 50 to 100 years. Even in high-pressure scenarios, PVC pipes can last more than 70 years.

Can UV Light Affect PVC Pipes?

Apart from faded appearance, UV light doesn’t have any significant side effects on PVC pipes.

What’s the Maximum Recommended Depth for Underground PVC Pipe Installation?

The maximum burial depth is the depth to which a pipe can be buried without deflecting more than 7.5% in gravity sewers. Some localities require a maximum pipe deflection of 5%, regardless of pipe type. The maximum burial depth is determined by several factors, including pipe stiffness, bedding material and compaction, along with the presence of any additional materials or load above ground.
